COMPOSING FOR BAND AND ORCHESTRA Syllabus
Before considering this challenging course, the student should have a strong background in orchestration and counterpoint as well as having a thorough understanding of theory, instrumentation, transposition, and instrument ranges in order to take full advantage of the high level of instruction this course offers. All work is tailored to fit the student's specific needs.
Prerequisite
The student should have completed Music Theory 1, 2, and 3, Orchestration and Counterpoint.
The student should have a strong understanding of principles of jazz chord progressions, instrumentation, and rhythm section styles.
Materials Needed
Keyboard and access to Sibelius music software program.
Textbook: Twentieth Century Composition by Leon Dalin, Publisher: Wm C. Brown.
Assignments will be given with each chapter and the work will be tailored to fit the needs of the student.
