Saxophonist Ray Blue

Paramount Center for the Arts

COMING EVENT

JAZZ SUITE FOR THE GENERATIONS

Vince has been commissioned by the Putnam/Northem Westchester BOCES Arts in Education Service under the supervision of Michelle Sherer and the school districts of Peekskill, Croton-On-Hudson, Ossining, and Somers, New York to compose a 15-minute jazz suite.

Thom Piliouras, Director of Music for the Peekskill City Schools, is coordinating the concert to be held at the Paramount Center for the Arts in Peekskill, New York on Sunday, March 9 at 6 pm.

Featured will be the jazz bands from the above four schools for the first half of the program. The second portion of the program will feature massed bands of approximately 85 students who will play the Jazz Suite composed by Vince.

Ray Blue, professional saxophonist, will be the featured soloist for the
evening, and he will be spotlighted for the second movement of the suite, "Reflections." This is an impressionistic piece in the style of Miles Davis with the Gil Evans orchestra.

The four movements are; FIRST IMPRESSION, REFLECTIONS, SO WHAT, and PRIME TIME. The Jazz Suite traces styles of music from the 1950's big band sound of Stan Kenton and Count Basie, to the funk-rock style of James Brown.

Also featured will be trumpeter Gordon Russell playing flugelhom in Vince' s arrangement of Benny Golson's I Remember Clifford. Gordon is the band director at Somers High School.

Vince Corozine mentored both Ray Blue and Tom Piliouras during their school days at Peekskill.
